Brush Island | Darien

The Site

A highlight of this Darien waterfront site was its unobstructed views of Long Island Sound and backing onto Holly Pond. However, this view came at a cost--the site was in the flood zone. Working with engineers, this became one of the first projects in the state that was elevated from the flood zone such that a basement could be added to the program.

The Program

To create a feeling of timelessness and individualism, myriad techniques were considered. Tall ceilings, a deep front porch, a large patio, fireplaces, plaster walls, antique wood, and inside-outside spaces were part of our conversations. We took our client's thoughts and our design vision for the project to create a space that defines timelessness. Steel windows, concrete, and antique woods add warmth and charm.

In the words of Leonardo da Vinci, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
